Tilt-Shift Photography - 80+ Beautiful Examples, Tutorials and More | Ultimate Guide

Filed under: Digital World — admin @ 3:04 am

via wikipedia

Tilt-shift photography is a method of photography that utilizes tilt-shift lenses to overcome the restrictions of depth of field and perspective that normal lenses provide. A tilt-shift lens allows for the rotation of lens against the image plane (tilt), as well as the movement of lens along the image plane (shift). By applying Scheimpflug principle, tilt-shift photography is able to obtain a very shallow depth of field using tilt and a large aperture.

Tilt-shift miniature faking is one of the most popular applications of tilt-shift photography. This is a process in which a photographer manipulates the angle of a tilt-shift lens to distort the focus of a scene to be captured by the camera, thereby creating an illusionary depth of field usually produced by macro lenses. This makes the particular scene appear smaller than it truly is.

Due to the popularity of tilt-shift miniature faking, it is often misunderstood to be synonymous with the tilt-shift photography method itself. In reality, there are other effects that can be achieved from this method. For instance, tilt-shifting is widely used to capture architectural scenes because of its unique ability to remove perspective in photos and manipulate the plane of focus.

We present here 60 cool examples of tilt-shift photography for your reference.

“Issue 16, for me, is a bit more down to earth. We wanted to put together an issue that would be helpful to beginners as well as intermediate level photographers. That’s why this month I am really happy to welcome a new column to the magazine which addresses actual questions sent in by our readers. We’re also exploring various issues that all photographers face, such as photography when it comes to the law, and this month’s feature on preparing your gear so that you don’t have to stay indoors on those rainy days.

Additionally, my ‘vacation spot’ list is getting longer thanks to our Photography Around the World column, where this month we visit the vibrant Isla de Mujeres. We’ve also got out photo assignment top picks from the PhotographyBB Forum assignments as well as the top images from our Flickr group - some truly inspiring work from all the participants!”
